Maha Alkhattab
As an artist based in Liverpool, born and raised in Iraq, painting serves as my sanctuary, a medium through which I find solace, escape, and therapy. Each brushstroke is a pilgrimage back to the essence of my roots, a testament to the beauty and richness of Iraqi culture that I hold dear to my heart. Through my work, I aim to preserve fragments of my homeland, weaving narratives of nostalgia and reverence for the traditions that define us as a people.
The women of Iraq are central to my artistic exploration and have emerged as the focal point of many of my paintings. They embody the essence of life, love, and resilience, symbolising strength, grace, and selflessness. Through their portrayal, I seek to celebrate the unwavering spirit of Iraqi womanhood, honouring their pivotal role in preserving our heritage and shaping the identity of our nation. As they gaze out from the canvas, I hope to evoke emotions of admiration, respect, and reverence, inviting viewers to contemplate the universal themes of beauty, love, and the human experience. In essence, my art is a testament to the enduring spirit of Iraq, a visual narrative that celebrates our cultural heritage and pays homage to the indomitable resilience of our people.
Through painting, I strive to bridge the gap between past and present, inviting viewers to embark on a journey of discovery and reflection, where memories of home and the echoes of tradition resonate deeply within the soul.

Liverpool Culture Exhibition
Liverpool Athenaeum
I am incredibly proud to have participated in the *Liverpool Culture Exhibition* at the historic Liverpool Athenaeum, in collaboration with the wonderful Smithdown Social Club. This exhibition not only featured the work of talented Liverpool artists—myself included—but also took visitors on a journey through the history of art in our city.
Liverpool's artistic spirit runs deep, and being a part of this exhibition has been an inspiring experience. From the city’s cultural roots to its modern creative pulse, it’s amazing to see how art continues to thrive in our community.
Thank you to everyone who made this exhibition possible and to all the fellow artists and visitors who contributed to the celebration of Liverpool's artistic heritage.
